Cancun, 12 May 2023 – Hoteliers and tourist boards joined Hotelbeds and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) at the MarketHub Americas to shine a light on the full spectrum of sustainability issues facing the travel industry.

Beatriz Barreal, board member of the GSTC and CEO and founder of the NGO Riviera Maya Sostenible, which played host to the conference, highlighted how companies across the travel ecosystem have a role to play in making travel a force for good.

“Destinations need to communicate with travellers about how they can be more sustainable when they visit,” Barreal said. “But it’s not just about single-use plastic. We must think broader and include all elements within environment, social and governance. Here in the Riviera Maya, we encourage hotels to create job opportunities for local people, promote the culture and also support small businesses.”

The focus on sustainability at the conference in Cancun comes just three weeks after Earth Day, when Hotelbeds revealed that over the past year the number of travellers who have chosen to book properties that are part of its Green Hotels programme has grown by 30% versus the previous 12 months. The company also planted a tree in the Hotelbeds Forest for each participant at the MarketHub Americas, in local communities, with native trees, fostering local re-naturing communities.

“Some companies see sustainability as a challenge, we see it as an opportunity, but we all need to work together across the industry to make the world a better place for tomorrow’s travellers,” said Elena Perez, Hotelbeds’ Chief HR and Sustainability officer. “People don’t want to compromise. They have an even greater appetite for travel than ever before but are also more conscious than ever before about their impact on the world. We must all respond to this by supporting the environment and preserving local cultures for generations to come.”

Tourism industry discusses how to make travel a force for Good

Cancun, 11 May 2023 – Tourism leaders attending the MarketHub Americas by Hotelbeds have reported that Artificial Intelligence and technology will be their top strategic priority for 2023.

A poll among the event’s almost 500 attendees found that 32% plan to embrace AI and tech above anything else this year. This was closely followed by 28% of companies planning to innovate more. The survey was rounded out with 13% planning to offer a more personalised service, 11% on creating and using more data and 9% focusing on the connected trip.

“AI has become the hot topic in the travel industry but it’s a tool Hotelbeds has been using for some time, particularly to assist with customer service via chatbots,” said Nicolas Huss, CEO of Hotelbeds. “There’s no doubt that the whole travel ecosystem can benefit from this technology. It can not only improve customer service, but also provide an elevated personalised experience by remembering preferences and automatically implementing them each time an individual books their next trip.”

The audience heard how AI and machine learning simplifies travel decisions for the customer, shortens the time of purchase and enhances personalised offerings throughout the entire travel lifecycle. For travel businesses, meanwhile, automating low priority tasks frees up times for the human workforce, which can then be used to add further value to their customers.

This was supported by @hotel and NH Hotel Group (part of minor), with both companies telling the conference how important they think it will be, not only this year, but in years to come as well.

“Technology is helping us to elevate guest services. We offer our customers seamless personalised experiences while also providing operational efficiencies,” said Diana Marin, SVP-Sales and Distribution at NH Hotel Group (part of Minor). “AI also using it to predict trend, thanks to powerful algorithms, to analyse data from various source ,what’s coming up next is right there.”

Konrad Walliszewski, CEO of @hotel, added: “There’s no doubt AI is going to disrupt travel but it’s too early to tell just how much. It’s not just about using AI and machine learning to make every employee more productive – you’re missing out if you only do that. It will soon become the new norm but it’s moving so fast that we all need to stay on top of it.”

AI and tech: Number one focus for travel in 2023

Palma, Spain, 9 May 2023 – The 10th edition of MarketHub Americas, Hotelbeds’ flagship event, returns to Cancun, Mexico, tomorrow (10 May). Taking place at the Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun hotel, the event will be attended by influential leaders from across the travel ecosystem.

Mexico for MarketHub

This is the fifth time Hotelbeds is bringing its flagship event to Mexico, one of the most important markets for Hotelbeds. In recent weeks, the company has reported a 50% increase in room nights versus 2019, with Cancun even higher at more than 70. Focus on sustainability

Women take centre stage

Showcasing diverse leadership is a key focus of the conference. This year, 12 visionary female leaders will take to the stage to share their insights on what will undoubtedly help shape the future of travel. MarketHub Americas asks ‘Where Next?’ for travel

‘Tech and AI will challenge travel status quo’

Tourism leaders reveal the traveller of tomorrow at MarketHub Europe 

Amsterdam, 29 March 2023 – &nbsp;Wellness breaks and walking in the footsteps of your favourite TV characters are just two of the emerging trends in the travel industry unveiled by Hotelbeds’ CEO, Nicolas Huss during the company’s MarketHub Europe taking place in Amsterdam this week.

Under the theme “Where Next”, conference delegates debated the “Traveller of tomorrow”, pinpointing new themes that will drive the industry in 2023 and beyond.

Huss revealed that 39% of global travellers who considered trips to destinations after seeing them on shows or movies went on to make booking. TV tourism was the second most influential source of travel inspiration – just 2% behind the long-standing leader, advice from friends and family.

“The ongoing sophistication of the traveller is not only about the pricing comparisons and high customer service; Travellers also want to enhanced and sophisticated experiences that nurture their worldview and help them relive TV shows while also reconnecting to themselves, nature, philosophy,” Huss told the audience of 400 travel and tourism leaders.

Personalization was another key theme during the first day of the conference, while wellness breaks are also on the rise.

“Wellness breaks have bounced back from 2021, recording a rise of more than 30% last year,” Huss said. “Almost half of global travellers are also more open to wellness breaks than ever before, which underscores that travellers are becoming more sophisticated and their worldview is changing towards more balanced life internally and externally.”

A desire for connected trips and an individual experience are driving the industry forward. This was echoed by Raphaël Zier, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of PerfectStay, who said: “I strongly believe we are witnessing the end of the search engine as we’ve known it for the past 20 years – very soon we will see an evolution in the digital ecosystem. ChatGPT is one example of how AI can provide a ‘one-to-me’ experience instead of a ‘one-to-many’ or even ‘one-to-one’ experience. This will likely generate huge loyalty from customers.”

 MarketHub Europe to welcome 400 tourism leaders

Palma, Spain, 16th March 2023 – Hotelbeds has seen strong demand in Greece since the start of 2023. Over the past three months, bookings have grown &nbsp;40% versus the same period in 2022 and 12% over the same time frame in in 2019. These figures cement Greece’s position as one of the most sought-after destinations, ranking in the top 10 for Hotelbeds clients.

To celebrate this success and underscore the company’s commitment to Greece, Hotelbeds CEO Nicolas Huss, accompanied by COO Carlos Munoz and Florian Blois, Senior Destination Marketing Manager, visited the country this week. While in Athens, they met with the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO), as well as with several hotel partners and clients.

During the meeting with GNTO Secretary General, Dimitris Fragakis, GNTO Director General, Sofia Lazaridou and GNTO Director of Tourism Promotion, Eleni Mitraki, they discussed how Hotelbeds can contribute to the development and promotion of the country's tourism product, especially during the off season.

“It was an honour to meet with the GNTO to discuss how we can work together to further support the Greek tourism industry,” said Hotelbeds CEO Nicolas Huss. “We also shared our growth plans for the future and look forward to continued success through closer working relationships with our local partners.”

Dimitris Fragakis, GNTO Secretary General, added: “The Greek National Tourism Organization seeks to collaborate with key players in the sector as to best promote Greece’s tourist product.

During their stay, together with the local team led by Regional Director for Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Malta and the Balkans, Marta Gonzalez, the Hotelbeds leadership also hosted a dedicated event for hoteliers in Athens. The event held at the Grand Hyatt in Athens on Tuesday 14, was attended by 100 hoteliers.

Hotelbeds records growth in Greece

Palma, Spain, 16 March 2023 – Google, the World Travel and Tourism Council, Morgan Stanley and the Global Sustainability Tourism Council will take the top billing at this month’s MarketHub Europe by Hotelbeds as the tourism industry comes together to discuss the future of travel.&nbsp;

Held at the nhow Amsterdam RAI from 28-31 March 2023, the event will bring together more than 400 key decision-makers and influencers from the global tourism industry to analyse the latest travel trends and forecast who the traveller of tomorrow will be, and how we can ensure travel is more sustainable for all.

The event, returning after a three-year hiatus, will feature keynote speeches and panel discussions focused on the MarketHub’s central theme of “Where next?”, discussing the issues that define our industry – from data and technology to how we successfully deliver connected trips. MarketHub Europe to debate the future of travel

Palma, Spain, 14 March 2023 – Hotelbeds has partnered with Juniper Travel Technology to extend its full portfolio of products to customers of the fellow Mallorca-based technology solution. The new deal will provide Juniper and Cangooroo’s booking engine clients with an enhanced and more streamlined integration improving the user experience and access to Hotelbeds’ extensive product portfolio.

Juniper Travel Technology will now be able to access Hotelbeds’ full offering of more than 320,000 travel products – including hotels, experiences, transfers and car rentals – for its clients.
